Back to Bali with Alia, they luxuriated in the local culture. Alia volunteered with simple chores at the local clinic where Linda did acupuncture.  The local wildlife was evidently not so “wild” as to not monkey round, draping various local creatures about their bodies in fun! There Linda bought a baby coral in Paul’s name that they planted on a denuded reef, the “Karang Lestari” Project. Snorkeling and hiking, they explored that idyllic place, secretly fostering plans to perhaps move there someday, an urge despite all the wonders she’d seen and experienced around the world, Linda never had for anywhere else. That’s how much she loved the place.

Back to the US, she drove to Sedona and climbed with Paul to the “Vortex”, one of her semi-serious beliefs about space visitors and psychic phenomena.  She stayed busy. Boy, did she. Despite the ebbs and flows of pain over their relationship, despite the ever more obvious milestones of physical age, she stayed busy and grew, expanding her skills and her experiences manifold. She never gave up learning and growing, expanding her horizons, an explorer and a marvel to those who knew her.

Burma, Myanmar, a notoriously closed society: Paul at least never had any aspiration to visit there. But Linda through her Acupuncturists Without Borders found an opportunity. Sponsored by several Buddhist monasteries, she taught acupuncture in the local hospital to up-and-coming students, treating the monks and local populace alike. She invited Paul to accompany her.

With time and aging bods, they couldn’t always backpack or float rivers for weeks at a time. Especially with Jared. Ah, but SE Utah held other magical gems, and they explored the far reaches of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks from the mesas and canyon rims. Sometimes hiking by foot, but now also by Jeep, they traveled with nephew Chris, and with dear friends Tom & Dianne. Chesler Park up Elephant Hill in Islands in the Sky, backcountry Arches – they reinvigorated and rediscovered joys that life too often squeezes out of a body.
